7 Ways to Re-Purpose A Used Candle Jar

So your candle is gone. Here is how to clean out your used candle jar. Now what? Instead of throwing the jar out, here’s some inspiration for what to do with it.

1. Letter board container.

Turn the clutter into functional decor. Plus the sassy label can match the tone of your letter board or your decor. Bonus points because the candle that made you laugh can continue to brighten your day and your guests’ days. This jar worked out to be the perfect size for all the letters that came with a small letterboard from Target.

2. Date night jar!

“Never stop dating” is hard. Date ideas can be really hard to find or really discouraging, especially when your budget is literally $0. Find inspiration and force yourself to start dating by creating a date night jar. When you draw a paper, you have to have that date night. Just plan the ideas together, obviously, so you known it’s stuff that you both will want to do and can afford.

  • Cut a piece of paper into strips.

  • Write a date idea on each strip.

  • Either fold it up or roll it up. You can tape it shut with some washi tape.

  • When it’s date night, draw a date out of the jar!

3. Propagate your plants.

Trim a piece of one of your plants, and drop it in the jar filled with water. I would just be careful to make sure all the fragrance oil and wax is cleaned completely out of the jar. Heat evaporates fragrance oil, and rubbing alcohol cleans off the rest of the fragrance and wax. You can use a blow dryer or heat gun as you wipe out the jar. It also wouldn’t hurt to clean it out with soap and water. Just avoid getting the label wet. This golden pothos trimming started growing roots and more leaves.

4. Vase.

The jar is kind of the perfect size for a vase. It worked really well as a bud vase, but you could also have fun making a full bouquet. You can glue fabric or ribbon over the label to make it fit whatever vibe you’re going for.

5. Do a craft with it!

Works well for a DIY snow globe. This little tree and fake snow came from Dollar Tree. Hot glue the tree to the lid of the jar, and add the snow. No need to add water. Personalize it with anything else you want to add in the jar. You might want to peel off the label for this one. If it isn’t coming off easily, then just soak it or use goo gone like you would with any other label. Or get extra creative and leave the label on and make your snow globe match the label. Mom’s off duty? Hot glue a tealight on the bottom.

6. Tealight holder.

Drop a tealight in. Done. It's simple. It's elegant. And it's more fun because of the label. You can even get colorful lights. Ribbon would make this especially cute.

7. Pour a new candle.

Go to a craft store and pick out wax, a wick, and fragrance. Follow my blog here on how to make your own candle at home. You can experiment with different waxes or mixing fragrances. Or try using essential oils.
