Does aromatherapy work?
Why do you want something that smells good? It's more than just because it smells good. You need fragrance because you just want to feel less stressed. Here's some of the science behind why good smells help and why it matters. I linked the full article at the bottom. Students used an EEG to prove that certain smells cause certain brain waves.
As soon as you smell something you personally like, the left front of your brain starts thinking differently. If you're curious, it causes beta waves.
What that means:
Your brain quickly makes changes in the way you:
Reason
Plan
Problem-solve
And the way your brain starts working benefits your:
Speech
Intellect
Behavior
Attention
Movement
Sense of smell
Personality
So just from a pleasant smell, literally everything gets better. I’m personally not a fan of aromatherapy, but researching this blog is starting to convert me. These benefits are really subtle and quick, but it does take a little bit of stress off you for a minute. So light a candle and see if your mood improves. Plug in an air freshener when you need to focus on studying or you’re trying to get stuff done. Hopefully this helps you!
And another fun fact. That study also found that citrus scents help you relax. Click here for a citrus pick-me-up option!
